ANGELOLOGY – STUDY OF CELESTIAL BEINGS

ān´jel (מלאך, mal’ākh; Septuagint and New Testament, ἄγγελος, ággelos):

 INTRODUCTION

THE PREEMINENCE OF YEHOSHUA HA`MASHIACH JESUS THE CHRIST

Heb 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

This Study Guide, Angelology, will follow the Pattern of the other Study Guides in the Christology Series. Most of this article will have only Cites of the Scriptures by Book, Chapter and Verse except for the section on the Preeminence of YEHOSHUA JESUS and the description of the Celestial Beings from Ezekiel’s Vision. All other articles in the Study Guide will include the Scriptures with the Narrative Paragraphs.

As in all Christology Series Study Guide articles, we will discuss the Thematic Topic – Angelology in Relationship to YEHOSHUA HA`MASHIACH (Name & Title in Hebrew) JESUS THE CHRIST (Name & Title in English) as the WORD Manifested in the Flesh; the ALPHA & OMEGA and HIS Relationship to HIS Disciples. HE is the Beginning & The Ending and the Creator of All Things including the Innumerable Angelic Hosts who Worship Him.

Through HIM the Worlds were Framed and HE Upholds All Things through the Word of HIS Power and all things Consist in HIM. It is through YEHOSHUA JESUS that all Prophecies, >> All Bible Promises << which are the Exceeding Great Promises delineated throughout the Bible are Revealed, Realized and Actualized.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Joh 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

Joh 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

1Jn 1:1  That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

1Jn 1:2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

1Jn 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

2Pe 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Heb 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

Heb 10:6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

Heb 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Heb 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

Heb 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

Heb 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Heb 1:2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Heb 1:3  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Heb 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

Rev 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

YEHOSHUA HA`MASHIACH JESUS THE CHRIST

The above Scriptures Validate, Stipulate and Establish the Preeminence and Supremacy of YEHOSHUA JESUS. HE is the Crux of all Reality Knowable to Disciples who are Taught by YHVH GOD. The Fellowship of the Mystery, which was Hid in YHVH GOD, can only be Known and Believed by HIS Disciples who are Born of HIS Spirit and are HIS Children.

Knowledge is the Processing of Information but Faith and Belief is a firmly held Conviction that the Word of YHVH GOD, YEHOSHUA JESUS, the HOLY GHOST/HOLY SPIRIT is Spirit and it is Truth which is Revealed and Knowable through the Holy Spirit of YHVH GOD – through the Indwelling HOLY GHOST/HOLY SPIRIT.

After HIS Resurrection, YEHOSHUA JESUS, while walking on the Road to Emmaus, questioned two Disciples about their sad Demeanor. They had been discussing the Death of their Leader who had been Crucified and the End of HIS Ministry. They told HIM how their Hopes had failed because they had been so sure HE had been The MESSIAH, HA`MASHIACH. Hearing their response, HE admonished them as “slow of heart to Believe all that the Prophets have spoken” through the Holy Bible (the Old Testament, the Torah and TaNaKh). HE then Expounded to them the Scriptures beginning at Moses and all the Prophets concerning HIMSELF, Luke 24:13 – 24:31. They had “Knowledge” but they lacked Faith and Belief until HE Systematically Demonstrated the Scriptures to them. True Conviction and Spiritual Fellowship comes through the Spirit of YHVH GOD – through the Indwelling HOLY GHOST/HOLY SPIRIT. These Scriptures also depict Matthew 18:20, where YEHOSHUA JESUS told HIS Disciples – “for where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

ANGELOLOGY

Angelology is the Study of Angels (Celestial Beings) who are defined as Powerful Spiritual Beings of several Ranks/Orders and Classifications. I have chosen to use the Term “Celestial Beings” interchangeably to Convey the varying Classifications of the Angelic Hosts and will, when writing about them, Identify each Class accordingly. There are several Beliefs and there are as many Myths about Angels which may be Dispelled by using only the Holy Biblical Scriptures for Classifications, Names, Descriptions, Functions and Duties as the Christology Study Guide’s Cited Source which is our Proof of Concept. I have included a few artist renditions of the Celestial Beings but none are exactly as depicted in the Bible.

The articles will be written in Narrative Paragraphs with Support Scriptures throughout its Presentation. This is just a Brief Introduction to the Study Guide Demonstrating how Angels and other Celestial Beings have interacted with Mankind and Disciples in the Past, are involved with them in the Present and will have Active Roles with YEHOSHUA JESUS on the Last Day which is in the Future. They will be the ones removing all things that Offend the Kingdom of Heaven including People. There will be no Gray Areas. REALITY & MYTHS REGARDING ANGELS & CELESTIAL BEINGS

CELESTIAL BEINGS – CHERUBIM & THE LIVING CREATURES – WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS

Eze 1:6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

Eze 1:7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

There are several Myths and Traditions surrounding “Angels” which include the Cherub which resemble pretty and typically chubby infants with Wings that are similarly represented on Valentine’s Day cards. The image was actually contrived during the era when Children, mostly Infants, were dying at horrendous rates from poverty and disease. The controlling elements Placated the Masses through Stupefaction by Portraying the Concept of death’s release from suffering and their morose little starved bodies being changed into chubby little angels for the sake of the mourning Parents and Families.

In Reality a Cherub is the Singular Classification of the Plural Cherubim that does not resemble a typical “Cherub” at all. The following Scriptures give a summary of a group of Celestial Beings referred to as Cherubim (Plural). They are also referred to as “Living Creatures” depicting their four faces which is a Man, a Lion, an Ox and an Eagle although another description includes the description – of the “Face of a Cherub” which we will discuss later.

When speaking of them collectively I will refer to them as “Celestial Beings” rather that the “Generic Term of Angels” which Traditionally is a Classification of Celestial Beings in of itself.

THE LIVING CREATURES – CHERUBIM

Cherubim

Eze 1:5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

Eze 1:6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

Eze 1:7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

Eze 1:8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

Eze 1:9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

Eze 1:10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

Eze 1:11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.

Eze 1:12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went.

Eze 1:13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

Eze 1:14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

Eze 1:15 Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces.

Eze 1:16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.

Eze 1:17 When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went.

Eze 1:18 As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four.

Eze 1:19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.

Eze 1:20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

Eze 1:21 When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

Eze 1:22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.

Eze 1:23 And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.

Eze 1:24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.

Eze 1:25 And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings.

Eze 1:26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

Eze 1:27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.

Eze 1:28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

OTHER CELESTIAL BEINGS

Another Myth is that “Angels” or Celestial Beings do not have Wings” because they often appear in the Bible as a Man. But several Books of the Bible describe Angels/Celestial Beings of different Classifications which have two, four or six Wings as the Cherubim above. The Seraphim have six Wings. With two they cover their Face, with two they cover their Feet and with two they Fly.

There are also several Celestial Beings that are not Biblically Identified as Angels although they have Wings such as the two Women in Zechariah 5:9 who had Wings like Storks who were transporting a Ephah. In addition, there have been times when an Individual interacts with a Prophet during a Vision who identifies themselves as a Fellow Servant or they are of the Prophets. We have to remember the Spiritual Realm is not confined to the Physical Laws of Earth, Space or Time and the “Heavens” are unlimited in its Variety of Beings and Non Locality.

The Supernatural Descriptions of the Celestial Beings appear to be Anthropomorphic in Terminology that have Representations from Nature (Animals) and its Symbolisms which may present itself to the Finite Mind of Mankind who were Inspired to write the Scriptures. Other Celestial Beings such as those accompanying the “Living Creatures” Appear to be Spiritual “Vehicles” that have Wheels Within Wheels with Eyes and Spirits and appear to possess Intellect, are Self Motive and possess Self Directive Mobility as seen also in the Books of Isaiah, Ezekiel, Zechariah and in the Revelation of YEHOSHUA JESUS. Cherubim are also associated with Judgment. They cover the Mercy Seat on the Ark of the Covenant and they are the Designated Guard of the Garden of Eden and the Tree of Life turning

Gen 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

CELESTIAL & ANGELIC ATTRIBUTES

Angels possess Intelligence as seen in Matthew 8:29; 2 Corinthians 11:3 and 1 Peter 1:12. They show Emotion in Luke 2:13; James 2:19; Revelation 12:17, and Exercise Will in Luke 8:28-31; 2 Timothy 2:26 and Jude 6. Angels are Spirit Beings – Hebrews 1:14 and do not possess true physical bodies although they may appear as Men as seen in the Old Testament and the New Testament.

There are Holy Angels/Spirits and there are Evil Angels/Spirits. The Holy Angels/Spirits are the Obedient Angels who Loved, Obeyed and Remained Faithful to YHVH GOD and Retained their Estate, Habitation and Spiritual Standing. They are the Ministering Spirits spoken of in Hebrews 1:7.

The Evil Angels/Spirits are the One Third of the Celestial Population who Joined Lucifer, who is later named the dragon and the serpent called the devil and Satan, in Rebellion against the Government of YHVH GOD. The Evil Angels/Spirit Lost their Estate as stated in Jude 1:6. Because of his Pride, Disobedience and Rebellion and Iniquity Satan was cast out of Heaven – down to Earth and his angels were cast out with him.

Evil Angels/Spirits are identified as Malefic Beings who are Adversarial to Mankind and attempts to cause their Misery and Destruction which is why there is the Need for Disciples to be Trained and Prepared in Spiritual Warfare with Spiritual Gifts, Tools and Spiritual Weapons such as the Whole Armor of YHVH GOD and its Spiritual Armaments. The Struggle between the Rulers of the Kingdom of Light (YEHOSHUA JESUS) and the Kingdom of Darkness (Satan) and the Citizenry is not against Flesh and Blood but against some of the Evil Angels/Spiritual Beings Named in Ephesians 6:12 as Principalities, Powers, the Rulers of the Darkness of this World and against Spiritual Wickedness in High Places.

In the New Testament YEHOSHUA JESUS stated HE Beheld (Saw) Satan (the Adversary) fall from Heaven as Lightning in Luke 10:18. This Expulsion from Heaven was spoken of in Isaiah 14:12 – “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, (Satan) son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!”  The depiction of the Evil Angels/Spirits Being Cast Down to Earth is cited a few times in the Book of Revelation.

THE MESSENGERS OF YHVH GOD

Angels and other Celestial Beings appeared to Mankind as a Medium of YHVH GOD’S Power and for the Execution of HIS Will. They are HIS Messengers, they Delivered Instructions and answered questions when Accompanying Individuals during Visions and Explained Prophecies as they did with Prophets and other selected Individuals. Angels Revealed themselves to Individuals according to the Will and Purpose of YHVH GOD. Angels were sent to the Nation of Israel and to the Nations of the Gentiles in order to Announce Events, either Good for Joy or Evil as Warnings.

An Angel brought Elijah meat and drink in I Kings; and as GOD watched over Jacob, so is every Disciple Protected by an Angel that cares for him in all his ways if Aligned with the Ways of YHVH GOD. There are Angels Militant, one of whom smote in one night the Assyrian Army of 185,000 men. Angels go forth from GOD to Slay one person as well as with the Rogue Prophet who was saved by his speaking Ass who turned away from the direction he was headed because he saw the Angel with his Sword drawn to slay the Prophet. In Ezekiel the enemy was scattered before the Militant angel like chaff which may be blown away by the Wind.

Avenging Angels are mentioned, such as the one in II Samuel, who annihilated thousands. It would seem that the pestilence was personified, and that the “evil angels” are to be regarded as personifications of this kind. “Evil” is here to be taken in the causative sense, as “producing evil”; for, as stated above, angels are generally considered to be by nature Beneficent to Mankind. They typically Glorify YHVH GOD, thereby the term “Glorifying Angels”.

Celestial Beings constitute YHVH GOD’S Court, sitting in Council with HIM in I Kings and in Job, hence they are called HIS “Council of the Holy Ones” in the Psalms. They accompany GOD sometimes as HIS Attendants when HE appears to Mankind in the Form of Man through the Theophany when HE was seen by Abraham when on the Way to Judge Sodom & Gomorrah.

This conception was developed after the Exile. In the Book of Zechariah Angels of various shapes are delegated “to walk to and fro through the earth” in order to search out and report what happens.

In Daniel the names Michael and Gabriel are named. Michael is Israel’s Representative (Prince) in Heaven, where other nations—the Persians, for instance—were also represented by Angels or “Princes”. More than three hundred years before the Book of Daniel was written, Zechariah graded the Angels according to their Rank but did not name them.

ANGELS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

The New Testament includes many interactions and conversations between angels and humans. For instance, three separate cases of Angelic interaction dealt with the births of John the Baptist and YEHOSHUA HA`MASHIACH JESUS THE CHRIST. In Luke 1:11, an Angel appears to Zacharias to inform him that he would have a child despite his old age, thus proclaiming the birth of John the Baptist who was the Harbinger of the Savior.

In Luke 1:26 the Archangel Gabriel visits the Virgin Mary in the Annunciation to foretell the birth of YEHOSHUA HA`MASHIACH JESUS THE CHRIST. A Host of Angels then Proclaimed the birth of YEHOSHUA HA`MASHIACH JESUS THE CHRIST in the Adoration of the Shepherds in Luke 2:10. An Angel appeared to Joseph, the husband of Mary, before the birth of CHRIST informing him of the Sacred Conception and appeared again in a Dream, warning of Herod’s seeking the Life of the Child allowing them time to flee from the soldiers of Herod.

Angels also appear later in the New Testament. In Luke 22:43 an Angel comforts YEHOSHUA JESUS during the Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. In Matthew 28:5 an Angel speaks to Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb, following the Resurrection of YEHOSHUA JESUS and the rolling back of the stone which was done by an Angel. Two Angels were inside the tomb when Mary returned alone looking and grieving for her LORD. Hebrews 13:2 reminds the reader that they should always be hospitable because we may “entertain Angels without knowing it”.

When YEHOSHUA JESUS Returns on the Last Day HE will bring HIS Angels with HIM and they will Separate Everything of Offense to the Kingdom of YEHOSHUA JESUS. That will include all People who are not HIS Disciples. Only HIS Disciples are HIS People and the People of YHVH GOD.

The information in this article will be delineated throughout this Study Guide with its Specific Narrative Paragraph with descriptive detail and with the actual related Scriptures.
